A Modern Day Robin Hood

Today is one of those days where I have no idea what I am going to write about. A couple of years ago when I was in college I met a man I will call "Sam" who was a lawyer. Sam was a pretty nice guy but he seemed kind of fake to me. He often had parties at his house because of his large house which I always thought was pretty nice of him. He never really mentioned what kind of a lawyer he was at the time.

Several years have passed and I have not been in contact with this Sam since then. Although we have not been in contact, I have had the opportunity to see this man and his name at least weekly. Over the last few years he has been advertising his business almost everywhere you can advertise. He is on my television, my radio, and even on my phone book. He is in the business of helping other people. When someone has been wronged he helps make things right. He helps those who can't help themselves. If I were to say so myself he is the Robin Hood of our generation.

Now to continue my comparison of Robin Hood and Sam there are a few differences. Robin Hood didn't take the opportunity to advertise his services. Maybe it was because T.V., radio, and telephone books were non-existent. Obviously Sam is more resourceful than Robin was.

The next difference I notice is that Robin wore a feather in his cap and always carried a bow and arrow. Sam always dresses in a suit and doesn't have time or the need to be proficient with a bow and arrow. He spends too much time visiting the sick and making sure that they are getting better.

Finally and maybe one of the more important differences between Robin Hood and Sam is how they were viewed by those in public office. Robin Hood stole from a government that taxed the public into poverty while Sam is just helping people "get what they deserve". Robin would have been put jail if he could have been captured yet Sam has no need to run because he what he does is "legal".

When Disney made the movie and then when Kevin Costner did his version I'm assuming that for reasons of time constraint they didn't take time to go much into Robin Hood's lifestyle. Rather than focusing on the lifestyle of Robin they talked about the good acts that he did.

If a movie was made about Sam in a similar manner it would be very similar to Robin Hood. I thing that it would go something like this. One day there was a woman at a store who ordered a cup of coffee. She spilled the coffee on herself and it burnt her. She figured that someone must pay for her being wronged so she gave Sam a call. Sam, being the saint that he is told the woman not to worry. She had been wronged and she would get what she deserved. The movie would end with Sam making sure that the woman would get enough money back from her accident that she would never have to work again.

This is just one example of many possible stories about Sam's great acts of service. There are many other great examples of Sam's service to humanity like the man who was rear ended and later said his neck hurt, the woman who took Phen Phen seven years ago and then hear about a 12 billion dollar suit against the company, and the drugged out convict who was resisting arrest and says he was mistreated by the police. Oh, I forgot to mention, Sam doesn't even charge any money for his services unless he gets you some money back and then he only takes a third.
