Joseph Smith Practice...

For all of you that don't know, for the last several months I have been involved with a group of BYU students here in Provo called Spire Music. This group was started by a very talented individual in my ward, named Rob Gardner, who composed the music for a CD we recorded.

The CD that I was involved in is called "Joseph Smith the Prophet" and we recorded it sometime last March or April. To learn more about this Click Here

Anyways, recently our group was asked by the Smith family to perform the closing devotional for their family reunion and we have been in a rush to put the whole thing together. Due to lack of time, our group has had to pull a few strings to get an orchestra together. It is very fortunate that the Temple Square Symphony is going to be here and is able to help us out for this occasion.

I guess because we will be performing with the Temple Square Symphony the conductor, who I guess is famous in the church because he has composed a lot of music and done a lot of stuff with church music, Dave (forgot his last name) will be conducting us. So during the practice last night, he was standing near the back where I was singing and he was just standing there listening to us and trying to give Rob some feedback on what he thought.

I bring this up because after the practice he came up to me for some reason out of the blue and just told me I have a good voice and he asked me what group I sing with. I was sort of taken back because that was one of the last things I expected to hear from this guy about me. So I sort of laughed and told him that this was my first group I have ever sung with. I told him that I actually could not read the music when I started singing with the group in January. So he just gave me a surprised look and laughed. We talked for a few minutes. He is a really cool guy. I just bring this up because I have been feeling a little down recently and this made me feel like I was king of the mountain for at least a little while.
