The emails I get

At Big Planet I have several email addresses. One of the emails I have is it@bigplanet.com. Ever since signing up for this email address I have been wondering why I get so many emails from random people.

I thought for a while that individuals were trying to be creative by sending messages created out of email addresses. What I mean by this is for example with my subject line I would have put the following into the CC field to try to be creative, The@bigplanet.com emails@bigplanet.com I@bigplanet.com get@bigplanet.com. And with that in the CC field people would see the message "The emails I get" created out of email addresses.

At first I was quite annoyed that I was getting emails from people and I would reply to them to make them stop this stupid thing of sending emails to everyone because it is basically junk mail that others like me with a common word like "it" receive.

At first I tried to resolve this issue with individuals by sending out emails to tell them not to put email addresses into the CC field and make sentences out of email addresses.

Here are two emails I sent out that I now feel bad having sent now that I know the reason why I am getting these emails and I know it was not really these peoples fault.

Example number 1

Hello Catherine and Charles,

My name is Steve and I would appreciate it@bigplanet.com if you would not send emails to people like this. It is interesting seeing what you did and it is an interesting way of sending someone an email with spelling words before the @bigplanet.com sign. Please don't do this again.

Example number 2
---------------------
Dear Evelyn Fitzgerald of 3538 Fir Dr Santa Rosa CA,

I received two emails from you. One on the 11th and one on the 12th. And I think you chose a wrong person to send those emails to. I actually work for Big Planet Tech Support.

You sated in your email "you don't know me, so don't bother to e-mail me back", well I would hate to inform you that I do know you a lot better than you think I do.

You also stated in another email to me "hi, you don't know me, so don't bother e-mailing me back". You don't know me so don't email me. What you are doing is what is called spam.

-------------------------

That last example was one of the first emails that I received like this and I think it was just random coincidence that she put in her email "you don't know me, so don't bother to e-mail me back" and now I feel bad that I probably scared that lady with technical terms and referred her to Federal Law sites on the internet. She is probably some elderly lady that does not know better and is now scared to do anything with her iphone. And to top that off, I looked up the information on the account and I put in their contact information of "Evelyn Fitzgerald of 3538 Fir Dr Santa Rosa CA" which probably scared them that I could look that up and knew who they are. I am glad that I did not go overboard by putting in much more information than that.

The other day I figured out why I get these random emails. We support a product called an iphone and an iphone is a telephone with a screen that you can send email on and browse the internet.

The problem the iphone is that when sending emails and if you accidentally type the subject line into the CC field it will add @bigplanet.com behind each word you put into the CC field. So if you don't understand how to send email or you mess up and you type your subject line into the wrong field like the CC field it sends out an email to those usernames such as the username of "it". So if you type in a subject into the CC field such as "It is Saturday" it will send out an email to it@bigplanet.com, is@bigplanet.com, and saturday@bigplanet.com. So if you have a common word as an email address you will be getting emails from random iphone owners at times.

For example, today's email I received was sent to three individuals. And the email was random and hard to understand and I thought I would share an example of the random emails I get.
