Heal Toe Express

My car was once named Scratch but due to unfortunate experiences this last week my car has a new name, Dent.

I could be sad because of my unfortunate car accident, but I am really trying to take my losses as a learning experience as I once did with another large sum of money that I lost last summer. I think it is just becoming a standard for me to have at least one large loss of money each year.

The sad part of not having a car is having to depend on my bike to get to work each day. My bike seems to have formed an attitude. This week so far I have spent 40 dollars to just keep my bike running, which seems to be more expensive than having a car.

This week I was trying to get to the Priesthood session of conference and my chain decided to break. The closest people I knew was people in my old ward, so I walked there in hope of someone having mercy on me in hopes that they would drive me to Wal-Mart to buy the needed part for my bike.

My Wal-Mart experience is sort of a story in itself. A friend of mine, Sarah Lavine, drove me to Wal-Mart and the guy who helped us said that the bike chain that I purchased would work on my bike. He was just like me when I worked at Wal-Mart. I assumed many things and I actually did not know what I was talking about most of the time. Well this guy said that the chain would work on my size of bike and for this reason I purchased it. And because of this I had Sarah drive me home and I tried to put on my chain, but it was 19 links too short. So that left me stranded with no mode of transportation other than the Heal Toe Express.

And to further talk about my experiences with my bike this week, last night when I was coming home from work, I could not believe how tiring it was to ride my bike home. I was thinking that I was a wimp and could not bike across town twice in one day. Yes before I say more, I will admit I am a moron. Somehow my brake got messed up yesterday and now the brake is constantly on and I rode my bike home with the brake on the whole time. This morning I had to disengage it so that I could get to work.

Having only one brake is not a smart idea. My back brake is not the best anyways, so riding a bike this way has many possible disadvantages. I am sure you can think of a couple of disadvantages. One disadvantage that I experienced this morning was not being able to stop abruptly. A pickup pulled out in front of me and with me having no stopping power, I almost wrecked my bike into this pickup. I would have survived this accident I think, but the accident I was almost in the other morning would have been fatal. Hopefully nothing happens to me on my bike because I have no medical insurance covering me. If problems arise in this area, even the Heal Toe Express may not function for me in the future.

So I am having a great time riding my bike this week, and I am sure to have many fun experiences in the future especially with the snow season coming up soon. I am sure that my bike will break down again and I will be stranded again with the ol Heal Toe Express.
