Death Road Trip

Many times I think I have done things that I thought were stupid. I think tonight I did something that topped everything; I hung out with my new roommate Matt. If you took a look at my last story, this is the continuation story of what happened tonight.

After sledding down the cement tube in the mountain we got outside and it was snowing the whole time we were inside. There was quite a bit of snow on the ground about an inch worth and my roommate and his friend decided to go sledding.

My feet were freezing from walking through a foot and a half of water and I didn’t think sledding would have been that fun. There was hardly any snow and the last thing I wanted to do was to get the rest of my body soaked by playing in the snow.

I went to sit in the car where the girl that would not go into the tube with us was waiting. I told her about our adventures and she was grateful that she did not come with us on that activity. She told me that she would have died. So we sat there in the car and talked while the two fools went sledding.

I call them fools because they are. I think my roommate Matt does not think all the time. He knows I think this of him because I told him. When they went sledding they decided to go sledding down a hill covered with rocks. When they got back to the car they told us how fun it was but they got on a hill covered with rocks. I asked them why they did not sled down a different hill like the one that was smooth and had no rocks on it. I pointed it out to him and I asked him why he didn’t think about scoping out the area and find a decent place to go sliding.

Anyways, that was just a sub story for the real story. I chose to say that to try and give you a feeling of what my roommate is like.

When he got back in the car, he just started driving. He did not think about wiping the snow off the car so that he could see out the windows. He didn’t think about wiping off the insides of the windows from all the fog of that girl being in the car for an hour and a half. He just started driving. So with the snow on the outsides of the window and the fog inside in addition to the blizzard, I thought we were going to die at some point on this trip. He reassured me of this when we pulled out onto the road that goes through Provo Canyon without cleaning the windows.

I was in the back seat telling them to wipe off the windows inside at least so that there would be more than a half inch sliver of clean window to look through. When they finally wiped off the insides of the windows, we still could not see that well because his window wipers did not work all so well. So what does Matt do, he opens his door and drives with his door open.

He would have just opened his window, but none of the windows in the car open or close except the one in the back of the car. And that one you have to push up and down with your hands and it only goes down 6 inches because it is broken like the rest of his $150 car.

Matt eventually decided to open the sun roof in his car so that he could see better and so that we could help out in the viewing department. We decided this because we were driving in the oncoming traffic lane more than once before even leaving Provo Canyon.

Matt was sitting there driving his car and this is when we started getting into real traffic just outside of the canyon. And at this point, Matt decides to have a snowball fight. Matt was taking this wanting to die experience to the next notch. So this is really when I thought we were going to die.

I ended up not watching anymore, because it was really scary. I decided to watch no longer because when we were in the wrong lane in a lot of oncoming traffic I knew that I was going to die because there are no working seatbelts in the backseat of the car.

The sun roof was open and I could not get my window up so there was a lot of wind in the car. The girl in the back seat with me was freezing and so I sat in the back cuddling with her to try and keep warm. So I just sat in the back seat glancing up at times to avoid several snowballs and to return fire and to catch the occasional near casualty we about had in the car.

We made it back to the girl’s apartments with no problem. We survived and I am grateful that I am here to share this story. We dried off at their apartment for about an hour and a half and laughed about everything that happened that evening.

That night was one of the funnest and most memorable nights that I have had in a long time. I don’t recommend anyone repeating this experience.
