Who Is It?

Could you hold for just a second? A call is coming in on the other line. Ten years ago, nobody would know what that really meant.

How many times have you wanted to cut in on a conversation and had no power to do so? Back in the day and even currently now, many times I struggle to voice my opinion and be heard in the conversation. I can remember so many times that I have needed to tell mom and dad something while they are talking to some friends or have been busy doing something else and were too busy to have time for me to cut in. So I had to wait as I still do now under many circumstances.

In today's world of phones, most everyone has call waiting or a cell phone.

It is amazing that a phone call will take presidence over almost anything. A phone call has taken presidence over meetings, games with friends, other phone calls, ...

People just can't miss those phone calls.

I am one of them that I complain about and I am trying to work on practicing what I preach. I am not as bad as many of them.

The other day when I was visiting some friends the phone rang. There were about eight of us in the room and we all quieted down so that the guy answering the phone could hear the person talking to him. He sat there and said yes, no, yes, and said some stuff to the person calling. After about five minutes, he was done with the call and it was someone giving a survey and he was answering the questions even thought he had friends and family over that he had not seen in a long time.

Why does the phone take presidence over things like other phone calls. Is the person you are talking to second rate to the thrill that someone else wants to talk to you. Maybe the call waiting is not so bad, but when someone calls in and you are put on hold, the thing that should happen is they should switch over find out who it is and tell them that they will call back, not talk to them for the longest time.
